A USGC refiner is interested in treating diesel fuel to remove traces of sulfur so that it can be sold as ULSD. The current hydrotreating systems for diesel use high severity HDS operations, which require large volumes of catalyst, high pressures/temperatures, and inadvertently crack some of the hydrocarbons. GTC Vorro provides a new tool, which uses catalytic adsorption with a nano-wire catalyst to remove the trace sulfur at lower severity and lower cost. The benefit is lower cost and increased flexibility in the refinery operation.
